Most PDF sites want the file uploaded before they'll touch it. We didn't want your contracts, payslips and supplier bills sitting on our servers, so Autonome PDF does the work inside your browser. Nothing goes to a server unless you choose Save to Team, Request signatures or Send to Xero or MYOB.

Edit text

Fill and sign
Fill in a form, sign, add text, draw, highlight, or stamp APPROVED, PAID, RECEIVED, a date or your own words.
Redact
Black out parts of a page permanently. The page becomes a picture, so the covered words can't be copied or found.
Cover with white
Cover part of a page with white. This only hides it, and the words underneath can still be copied.
Flatten form
Make filled-in form fields and notes part of the page, so they can't be changed.
Make text searchable (OCR)
Read the words in a scan on this device and add them as hidden text, so the PDF can be searched and copied.
Export to Word or Excel
Turn tables into .xlsx or .csv and text into .docx, with a preview first. Best for typed PDFs.
Images to PDF
Make a PDF from JPG or PNG images, one image a page.
Add a password
Encrypt the PDF (AES-256) so it opens only with a password, with limits on printing, copying and changes.
Add fields
Put Signature, Initials, Date, Text and Checkbox fields on the page, so anyone can fill it in and sign it, here or in any PDF reader.
Request signatures
Send this PDF to up to 20 people to sign. They don't need an account, and everyone gets the signed copy with a Certificate of Completion.
There's also thumbnails and outline, search, zoom, print, download, fill in forms, add text, draw, highlight, add an image and sign. One honest limit: Edit text, Make text searchable (OCR) and Export to Word or Excel work best on typed PDFs and clear scans. A crooked phone photo of a docket will still read, just not perfectly, and we'd rather you heard that from us first.
Signatures
Sign it and send it back
Most of what gets signed in a small business is a quote, a variation or a timesheet, and printing one out just to sign it and scan it back wastes a morning. Open Fill and sign, draw or type your signature or use a photo of it, put it where it goes and download. Form fields fill in the same way. On the Team plan we keep your saved signatures so they follow you to any device you sign in on, and only you can use them.
Most Australian business documents can be signed electronically under the Electronic Transactions Act. Wills and some deeds are exceptions, so check with your adviser if you're not sure.

Nothing is uploaded
We built it on PDF.js and pdf-lib so the work happens inside your browser. The file you open never reaches us, so there's nothing for us to keep, lose or look at.
Works offline
Install it as an app and it opens without a connection, which helps on site where the signal drops out. You can open PDFs with it from "Open with" on your computer, too.
Redaction that removes the words for real
A black box drawn over the words leaves them sitting underneath, ready to copy. We rebuild each redacted page as a picture and remove bookmarks, the title, metadata or attachments that mention the covered words. The trade-off is that the rest of that page's words can't be selected afterwards.

Good to know
Are my files uploaded?
No. Opening, editing and downloading all happen in your browser, and we built it that way on purpose: we didn't want your contracts and payslips sitting on our servers. A file only leaves your device on the Team plan, when you choose Save to Team, make a share link or send it to be signed. Those need somewhere to keep the file, so that's the one exception.
Why do downloads need a sign-in?
It's how we keep editing free for everyone. Each free account gets 5 downloads in any 7 days, which covers most people's week. You never need an account to edit, and your PDF stays open while you sign in, so you won't lose your work. If your office downloads more than that, the Team plan has no limit.
What does Optimise PDF do?
It makes the file smaller when you Download or Save to Team, which helps when a supplier portal or an inbox has a size limit. Big photos are redrawn at print quality (about 150 dots per inch at the size they're shown) and unused parts are dropped. Words and drawings stay exactly as they are. If the file wouldn't get any smaller, we give you the original.
What runs in my browser, and what needs Autonome?
The everyday jobs run in your browser or the installed app, on your device. That's Merge PDFs, Split PDF, Edit text, Redact, Fill and sign, Add a password (AES-256 encryption), Export to Word or Excel (best for typed PDFs) and Make text searchable (OCR) for single scans, up to 20 pages at a time. Edit text removes the old words from the file. If a line is drawn in a way that won't allow that, it tells you and offers Cover with white or Redact instead. Batch OCR, ABN and GST checks, and draft bills in Xero or MYOB for you to approve are part of Autonome, at A$193.50 a month ex GST for up to 50 people, with a 14-day free trial. Those jobs need a server, because checking an ABN means asking the Australian Business Register and a draft bill has to land in your accounts. The Team plan for PDFs is A$3.30 per person per month incl. GST, with 1 GB per person pooled across your team.
Something isn't working. What can I do?
Reload the page and open the PDF again. Your browser doesn't keep anything between visits unless you've installed the app. If the PDF has a password, take it off in the app that made it, then open it here. If a line won't change, use Cover with white and type over it, or Redact it. Still stuck? Email support@autonome.com.au and tell us what you pressed and what you saw.
How does it compare with Adobe Acrobat?
For the everyday jobs, merging, signing, redacting and filling in forms, Autonome PDF does what most teams need, in the browser, for A$3.30 a person a month on the Team plan. Acrobat does more, like comparing two versions of a PDF, so we wrote an honest side-by-side, including when Acrobat is the better choice.
